With this in mind, all of us are trained in safeguarding, paediatric first aid, health & safety, food, safety and hygiene including fire awareness. When the unknow person collecting your child arrives they will need to share the password before entering the building (During COVID-19 parents/carers will not be allowed in the building). Passwords will be changed daily. Under no circumstance will your child be allowed to leaving the setting with an adult that we do not know. What is Safeguarding? It means: Protecting children from maltreatment Preventing impairment of children’s health or development Ensuring the children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes. Key principles underpin safeguarding to make every effort of the welfare and happiness of children, mainly: A child’s needs should be put first — always. It is important to help and support children as early as possible before issues escalate and become more damaging. Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility and everyone at a setting should act in a timely and coordinated manner to respond to any concerns about the welfare of a child. The Early Years Foundation Stage sets the foundation of safeguarding measures for early years providers to follow. They are based on four overarching principles, including: Children learn and develop best in an enabling environment Children are unique, learn constantly and can become resilient, capable, confident and self-assured Children learn and develop best in different ways and at different rates Children learn strength and independence from positive relationships. Everyone who works with children needs to understand how to recognise the signs and symptoms that could indicate a child is being abused, but also how to respond and make child protection referrals. The government guidance Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and What to do if you’re worried a child is being abused (2015) provides a national framework for all agencies working with children to join in partnership to safeguard our children effectively. All childcare providers need to consider this guidance and implement robust safeguarding policies and procedures for their setting, which outline how to respond to and record concerns about children and vulnerable adults. All providers should ensure their policies align with the safeguarding policies of their local children’s safeguarding board (see further down). If you are a manager or a trustee of an organisation, you should make sure all staff and volunteers understand and can implement their policies and procedures. We as practitioners will be alert to the signs and symptoms of abuse, we know how to report safeguarding concerns, and how to escalate any concerns if necessary. It is our duty of care to make sure concerns are raised and responded to appropriately. Importantly, we will ask questions if we are concerned and endeavour to ask for clarification.

Can I make a complaint?Yes. However, please speak with the childminder to resolve the problem first. If you can not resolve the problem with the childminder call Ofsted. Ofsted’s powers are limited: we cannot resolve disputes between you and the provider. Our role is to make sure that the childcare provider is following all registration requirements and take action if necessary. To complain about a childcare provider, get in touch with us at enquiries@ofsted.gov.uk or 0300 123 4666. If you complain, we will review the information you provide and decide what to do.

How can I arrange a visit? We can arrange a date for a show around to see what our setting looks like, the different areas for the different ages, the kitchen, changing area/toilets, COVID-19 safety measures, routine of the space allocated for the children, outdoor area, and meeting the staff and others. Thereafter, we will schedule a date when you would like your child to start and will share with you the settling process, which will require you and your child to come into the setting for short periods and explore the environment. Your child will be settling-in together with other children.
